The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the launch of a new leadership giving society – The Oak Society. Named after legendary EMU Baseball Coach, University professor and E-Club founder, Ron Oestrike, The Oak Society recognizes those whose philanthropic support will propel EMU Athletics to reach its full potential as the class of the Mid-American Conference.
Coach Ron Oestrike is one of the most revered people in the history of Eastern Michigan University. Known as “Oak”, or “Coach”, Oestrike spent virtually his entire adult life devoting his time and effort to make Eastern Michigan University a special place. A 1954 EMU graduate, Oak earned varsity letters in football and baseball as a student-athlete and went on to become a legendary baseball coach from 1965 to 1987, recording 633 career wins. As a campus professor and coach, Oestrike believed in hard word, a fearless attitude in competition and the desire to make everyone around him better. For all those traits and more, we are humbled the Oak Society carries his namesake and spirit toward the betterment of EMU.
